Where you can attend a video visit

A New Jersey licence allows your clinician to meet with you while you are physically in the state. You may connect from home, work or another private place in New Jersey. Your home address does not decide whether a visit is allowed. Your location during the visit does.

A sleep problem may be chronic insomnia when it happens at least three nights each week and continues for three months. This includes difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or returning to sleep. CBT-I is a short course of weekly sessions that retrains when and how you sleep without medication. It is usually the first treatment recommended for chronic insomnia.

What treatment involves

The first appointment is about 50 minutes. Your clinician asks how you sleep now, what you have already tried and whether insomnia is the whole picture. You keep a sleep diary, a two-minute morning record of bedtime, sleep, waking and getting up. From that, you set a sleep window—a consistent time to go to bed and get up—and adjust it as sleep becomes steadier. The usual course is six to eight appointments, generally one per week. Changes often become noticeable during the first few weeks. Read the full sequence on How CBT-I Works.

Sleep apnea, which causes pauses in breathing during sleep, can happen alongside insomnia. We treat the insomnia. Partners treat the apnea. Your clinician coordinates any referral.

For a video visit, choose a private place with a reliable internet connection. A phone, tablet or computer will work. A larger screen can make it easier to review your sleep diary. Before the first appointment, write down your usual sleep times, current medicines and anything you have already tried for sleep.

Questions about statewide care

Does online insomnia treatment work as well from home?

CBT-I is a talking-and-planning treatment, so it does not depend on equipment in an office. You review a sleep diary, adjust a schedule and solve problems with your clinician each week. A private space and a steady internet connection are the main things you need for a video visit.

Which insurance plans apply across New Jersey?

The plans we bill statewide are Aetna, Cigna / Evernorth, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare, UnitedHealthcare / Optum, Veterans Affairs Community Care Network. Our team confirms coverage and expected costs before your first visit. You can also pay without using insurance.

What if snoring or stopped breathing is part of my sleep problem?

Tell your clinician at the first visit. Sleep apnea means pauses in breathing during sleep, often with loud snoring. Sleep apnea and insomnia often occur together. We treat the insomnia, we have partners who treat the apnea, and our clinician coordinates any referral that is needed.
